The City of Cairns Festival of Highland and Irish Dancing Association Inc was established in Cairns in 1983 by Founding Principal Teacher Mrs Jacqueline Wilson.

The "City of Cairns" Highland and Irish Dancers compete regularly at Highland and Irish Dancing competitions throughout Queensland and Interstate. Our dancers are in high demand to entertain at Civic Functions, Corporate Events, St. Patrick's Day celebrations, School Fetes and Nursing Homes.

The City of Cairns Highland and Irish Dancers provide professional tuition to students in Irish and Highland and aims to develop correct technique, discipline and performance skills in a caring learning environment where each student's abilities and strengths are developed individually.

Dancers from the "City of Cairns" Highland and Irish Dancers have joined the internationally acclaimed OzScot Australia Highland Dancing Team and have performed at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo - Scotland , The Oman Tattoo - Oman, the Virginia International Tattoo - USA ,  the Basel International Tattoo - Switzerland, the 2010 Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Sydney, Rotterdam International Tattoo in Rotterdam, Holland,  Nova Scotia Tattoo in Canada and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Melbourne Australia in February 2015.

Founding Principal, Mrs Jacqueline Wilson, represented Australia on the judging panel of the 2014 World Highland Dancing Championships at Dunoon, Scotland.  Jacqueline also judged the 2014 Champion of Champions Championship of Australia in Melbourne and has judged at Championships throughout Australia, in New Zealand and Scotland.  At the end of 2022, Mrs Wilson had completed 40 Years of teaching Highland and Irish Dancing in Cairns and has retired to take a well earned break.  

Students are prepared for Highland Examinations conducted through the National Dancing Association of Australia and Irish Examinations conducted through An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (Irish Commission - Dublin.

From 2023, we welcome Jacqueline Gorjup TCRG as our Irish Dancing Teacher and Rachael Fullston NDAAI as our Highland Dancing Teacher.  Both Jacqueline and Rachael are well qualified and equipped to take over the teaching roles in Irish and Highland Dancing in Cairns.
